Parking at the Castle

From 1st April, the Castle will be open from Wednesday to Sunday each week and on Bank Holidays. The Club’s arrangement with the Custodian is that Tennis members will NOT while the Castle is open:

- Use the car park AT ALL on Saturdays

- Park more than 6 cars at any one time

- Park in any position other than in accordance with the sign board alongside the car

park

- AT ANY TIME (whether or not the Castle is open) park in the space designated for use by the Custodian

- AT ANY TIME park in the designated disabled space unless displayed the appropriate disc.

CLUB RULES do not permit anyone who is not a member or a visiting player to park and require each member to display a parking permit by hanging it from the rear view mirror.

While neither the Committee nor the Custodian wishes to make difficult the proper use of the car park, we cannot expect to enjoy this facility unless these guidelines are observed.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Men’s Box League 2018-2019

With considerable thanks to Bob Williams who stepped in organise the final rounds, the Box League concluded its first season with a clear overall champion....

....after finishing the opening round as runner-up to the inaugural champion and then Men’s captain, Dave Forster, Tristan Gretton shared top spot with Clive Slater (each winning 19 games) in Round 2 and thereafter was out on his own at the top of Division 1 in the next 3 rounds, scoring 18 on each occasion. In the final round 6 Tristan was caught when Clive Slater and Nick Cox matched him on 18 games each to share the title. Apart from those 5 players, only Richard Bagshaw was able to win promotion to the top Division.

In the lower Divisions also, there were some notable performances. Starting in Division 8, Chris Brady quickly showed his pedigree by gaining promotion in successive rounds to Division 5 where he held his own for the rest of the competition. Joining as a substitute, Patrick Poon rose from Division 4 to 2.

Several divisions featured tie-break sets, “maximum” scores of 18 and tie-break deciders after two or more players finished level in promotion or relegation place.

It is planned to stage a further competition on the same lines to start after Finals Day of the Club (Closed) Tournament in September. An invitation to join will be made in a later newsletter – so watch this space!
